Overview

Hampi, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and  described as a “highly evolved multi-religious and multi-ethnic society”, is an ancient city of ruins situated in the south India state of Karnataka . A unique landscape with a lot of historical relevance, it ranked #2 on Lonely Planet’s ‘Must Visit Destinations’ of 2019. However, lack of long term grass roots level policies has prevented Hampi from reaching its true tourism potential. Moreover, human development indices there, such as healthcare, education, employment and equal opportunities do not meet optimal standards.

Our project, Rebuild Hampi: Rural Development Based on Sustainable Tourism, is a multiple stakeholder approach involving local players. In addition to addressing various quality of life parameters, our mission is to put Hampi on everyone’s bucket list, and create a sustainable tourism industry, on which the local community can thrive. And you can be the change makers to help us achieve that!

Therefore, we invite each and every individual, who wants to create a social impact, to join us. Have the adventure of your life as you take part in Rebuild Hampi.
Change begins with an adventure.

‘Learning never stops throughout your life’. We definitely agree. Education is one such sphere, which is constantly evolving, facilitating us to making us adapt to newer concepts. You will be responsible for designing a knowledge-based model of education in government schools of Hampi, where the children get an opportunity to learn, grow, and to participate in extracurricular activities as well. Along with the same, infuse community outreach programmes into the society, which leads to a better sense of awareness amongst the community. The job does not end there. Work closely with local teachers, equip them with the tools that enhance their teaching skills, and contribute to the overall development of the children.

Besides teaching, learn more about this beautiful community as you stay with your loving host family. On the weekends, you have time off. So head off with your team to explore some stunning destinations, not very far away.

Teaching an individual has to be one of the most influential and monumental jobs in the world. Hence, experience, in this case, plays a major role. However, if you have the will and the passion for the same, we would be glad to see how you can make a difference to Hampi’s students.

Micro-enterprise Initiative

You will find plenty of opportunities to create local authentic handicrafts and products for the artisans, helping them with new ideas. At the same time, you get to learn their trade, a prime example of mutual benefit.

Santhe Market

Would it not be great if you were able to create products and sell them to a foreign destination? And this for a social cause. Work alongside local artisans, and get new products to the local market, and see it for yourself if you are any good at sales.

Electric Autos

Another initiative from our side to test your imaginations. You will breathe new life into outdated and newly assembled electric autos with your creativity. Your work will be seen everywhere on the streets of Hampi.

Clean Hampi

Attach your professional skills to an environmental cause. An off-beat project, which definitely piques people’s interest. Paint village walls and other facilities (NO GRAFFITI), and tackle problems related to health and hygiene from a different angle.

Education Transformation

Foray into education, give back to the community. Teach children the basics of design and art, through workshops and after-school lessons. You will make some fond memories as you encourage students to take extra-curricular, a practice that currently lacks importance in the schools of Hampi!

Sustainable Development- The Continuity

The city has a rich legacy. The style of art and architecture is very distinctive, giving rise to an authentic personality of the city. Through our initiatives, we would like to maintain the same.

Equip, not cater- Skills that last

Through this medium, we can make the local artisans independent in terms of thriving in their profession. By grooming them with various design techniques, you can add a new meaning to life for them.

Women’s empowerment- Urgent need

Just like any creative outlet, design and art does not differentiate between genders. It therefore, can act as a great leveller between the two. Let’s utilize this skill to empower the women of Hampi.

Education- Foundation

Education is a powerful tool that we use to change people for the better. But it’s potency can be increased through the application of design and art. Teaching the students about the same, and helping them to hone their skills can transform lives.

New Business- Innovate

Be it converting a traditional house into a homestay, or appealing to the buyers in a market; design and art can play a huge role in facilitation. Apply your proficiency in the local businesses, and improve their current results.

Job Creation- Spillover

The creation of new businesses leads to the creation of new jobs, which provides employment opportunities to the locals. You will be directly facilitating the development of a well oiled local economy.

Improve Sanitation- Quality of Life

Creating and designing works of art, that propagates the importance of proper hygiene and health standards in the society would be very helpful. More and more people will be get attached with the same through this method.

Look forward to what the day has to offer. Freshen up, and get ready. By 9:30, join your fellow voluntourists for an exciting day. Get greeted by Novoto executives, as they take you to the common project site.

Collaborate with fellow artists and designers into creating something unique. Help in organising an eye-catching market, improve the looks of traditional vehicles, or put a smile in the faces of the local women as you design their dream homestays.

At noon, we make a stop for lunch and refreshments. After lunch, we continue with project-specific work. Enjoy your day.

After 5 PM, the evening is kept free for a range of independent activities with fellow voluntourists. Occasionally, there shall be organised social events in the evening.

Finally, dinner is provided by the homestay. Rest and think about the fond memories created.

At Novoto, we aim to transform the perspective of voluntourism from one of humanitarian relief to one of cultural exchange. We believe that the impact of cultural exchange is more powerful than simple humanitarian relief.
